Smoot Road in Winter

$30.00$90.00

In those days, it didn’t get terrifically cold in the Winter in that part of West Virginia, but there was a lot of snow. I remember it coming down in flakes the size of dinner plates. When it was snowing, most people stayed home. Being in a hurry in those days, my family was going back and forth to Illinois every weekend from Early January to the end of March.

Description

Smoot Road in Winter

Smoot Road runs from Alderson past Blue Sulfur Springs in West Virginia Northwest to meet up with Interstate 64 at the village of Smoot WV. If you were on Smoot Road in the late 1980s you were on a two-lane county highway that had almost no curves for a tiny mountain road. When driving back and forth to the Midwest, I would use Smoot Road to get from my temporary home on Snake Run Road. This painting shows the prayerful agreement we always had with the Gods of Winter. The road is barely hinted at. The original is Acrylic on Canvas  11″ x 14.” Wolf Halton (c) 2021
